Kansas City Online Community

An online site for Kansas City - Finally, a place just for you...

Having been unemployed for almost a year, I don't know what I am supposed to do that I haven't already done. I have been: researching companies, networking, volunteering, freelancing, following-up, keeping up-to-date on current trends, attending seminars, reinventing and reevaluating my skills, etc.... The fact is, there are too many talented, experienced people looking for too few jobs. Finding humor in the things is what is keeping me sane. I would like to share today's humorous tidbit: I received three rejection letters yesterday from three organizations that I recently interviewed with and had high hopes for. When I told my mother about this, she said, "See if you can find someone that can tell you how to get the job you want." Really?!? Why didn't I think of this? It could be the solution to everyone's unemployment problem. Thanks, Mom!

Cindy, that's priceless! You are doing all the right things. I looked at your profile and it's impressive. I am a former HR Manager at a large KC company and reinvented myself several years ago and am now enjoying having my own company, so you're smart to keep all avenues open and participate in many endeavors. Would you be interested in considering serving on a committee with me for a nonprofit that's improving the lives of KCKS teenage girls? It's called Young Woman on the Move (www.youngwomenonthemove.org). Several professional, action-oriented women are planning the annual fundriaiser to be held in April 2010. The time commitment is pretty minimal. We meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 1:30 to 2:30. We're looking for a few more dynamic women, and I think you would be great! Please call me if you want to talk about that or to just get an HR Manager's perspective regarding your job search. Have a great day! Debbie Garr 913.706.0470

Yes we all get it and some of us send it. This is a plea to my friends, family, and associates that LOVE to send chain emails. Many of these are sweet, thoughtful, and should be sent on to others. Click here to read my complete plea.
