Thanks for the read and comment. There are some additional details in the full article.

A few examples are "Here is a funny video of you" or "Have you seen this picture of you" or "You've got to see this."  These are all red flags.

TinyURL is a good example of how people can mask what website they are sending to you. Personally, if their is a link using tinyurl.com, bit.ly, ping.fm or another URL shortening service, without any comments, or comments along the lines listed above, I ignore them.

Number 4 takes a little online training and experience. If one does not know what tiny url is or exactly whatyou mean about not looking right they may just not click on any link ever.

That is the safest way to keep from getting a virus but one may be cutting out opportunities to grow on the internet if they are afraid to explore it.

As with business surfing the internet has risks and each person needs to way the risks to benefits.

I personally get quite a bit of spam. I asked for it in a way. I post on craigslist I do not hide my email address or phone number. It is just too hard to break into the market if you are hiding from it.

These are great tips and number 4 is right but perhaps explaining what kind of weird links you are talking about may help those with no or little experience.
